Armed guards escort each group that enters the PNV. There is a small risk of surprising forest elephants and buffaloes and a warning shot could provide the scare needed to turn a charging animal away. There are also several militant groups just over the border in the DRC that are sporadically active… but the guides don't like to talk about that.
