Striped Cub

The Striped Hyena is nocturnal and in 15 years of traveling in this part of the world, it is the first I've seen. These spectacular animals are neither dog nor cat, they have evolved along a distinct line that shares features of both animal. As with Painted Dogs and Wolves, people have felt a threat from these carnivores and have nearly killed them to extinction. Today the Striped Hyena is considered 'near endangered' so it was great to see this mother with her healthy cub.
