Bags of charcoal are loaded onto the shoulders of ‘the runner’ who carries the load to a truck bound for Dar es Salaam. While NGO’s such as LegacyFound.org are working to provide income generating alternatives to charcoal, the demand for this natural resource remains too high for any level of sustainability.
