Legacy Foundation and Fondecion Progressar in Guatemala work on a briquette project for alternative fuels. Sponsored by National Geographic Society. Photography by Peter Stanley, 2012

This image shows a new grinding machine design (by Richard Stanley of the Legacy Foundation) that is hand cranked to quickly shreds leaves, grasses, corn huss, etc. The plan has been drawn on the side panel to guide local carpenters interested in freely replicating this hand grinder.

The shreaded material is then decomposed, compressed and dried into EcoLeña (fuel briquettes).
