The Hyena of Harar
For many years, packs of wild Spotted Hyena have been coming to Harar, Ethiopia to be hand fed. Legend has it that these hyenas would feed on the citizens of Harar during famine. To counter this behavior, the people decided to provide scraps outside the city walls, which drew an audience. With time, a few men found opportunity in hand feeding these carnivores for a small fee from the spectator. Today, anyone who visits the quite northwest town in Ethiopia will undoubtedly seek out the hyenas. I was able to capture this photo by holding my camera next to the camel bones and waiting for a large female to come close for a bite.
