(Photo by Cody Taggart)Photography has been a passion of mine for many years and the images on this site represent my move to using digital in 2005. I grew up in Tanzania, Kenya, and Papua New Guinea and moved to the United States for secondary school and later studied Geography and Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. During my studies I returned to Tanzania for a course in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. Later, I managed a student travel company for four years that incorporated teaching swahili, wildlife behavior and ecotourism. I continued my teaching career with three years in Thailand and I currently teach Biology and Environmental Science at the wonderful International School of Tanganyika, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Memorable experiences in diverse locations hopefully come out in my wildlife and nature photographs as I intend to inspire an ethic of respect for the natural world. I also enjoy travel photography and all of the challenges of documenting cultural diversity. This includes overcoming language barriers, learning basic customs quickly, and when in doubt getting people to laugh, often at me.
Traveling with a camera has taught me to slow down, analyze and learn from diverse people, unique landscapes, and wildlife. One of my favorite photographs, Family Three, came from a day that I sat with a group of grazing elephants for an hour. I patiently watched for behaviors and patterns that we humans relate to, such as this image of a mother organizing and protecting her young. Elephants’ social structure, behavior and life span is remarkably similar to humans and this photo hopefully creates that connection with viewer. Through links made while viewing my photographs, I hope to inspire people to reflect on our role as the most influential species this planet has ever hosted.
All of my photos can be purchased directly through the site. The printing agencies that will handle the order are Mpix (US and Canada), Photobox (UK), IYP and fotoflot (Worldwide). These are the best of the best but if you have any difficulties or prefer a digital image please feel free to
